A Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), composta por aproximadamente 90 jornalistas de todo o mundo, já decidiu quem são os nomeados da 78.ª cerimónia dos Globos de Ouro. Os filmes Mank, Os 7 de Chicago e Nomadland são alguns dos que concorrem à categoria de Melhor Filme.
Geralmente, os nomeados para os Globos de Ouro são anunciados em dezembro, um mês antes da gala, que habitualmente decorre em janeiro. No entanto, este ano, a pandemia de Covid-19 levou ao adiamento da cerimónia para o dia 28 de fevereiro. Ainda em onda de mudanças, esta vai ser a primeira vez que a premiação decorre em duas cidades: na sala de eventos Rainbow Room, em Nova Iorque, com a atriz, comediante e guionista Tina Fey, e no hotel Beverly Hilton, na Califórnia, com a humorista e atriz Amy Poehler.
Apesar das diferenças, a cerimónia dos Globos de Ouro continua a ter a missão de galardoar os melhores trabalhos do cinema e da televisão do ano de 2020. A gala de premiação acaba por servir também como uma antevisão daqueles que podem vir a ser os grandes concorrentes aos Óscares e Emmys.
No ramo do cinema, nas duas categorias mais aclamadas, Melhor Filme – Drama e Melhor Filme – Comédia ou Musical, encontram-se trabalhos como Nomadland, Mank, Os 7 de Chicago, Hamilton e The Prom. Já no que toca à televisão, séries como The Mandalorian, The Crown, Ozark e Schitt’s Creek são algumas das nomeadas aos Globos de Ouro nas categorias de Melhor Série – Drama e Melhor Série – Comédia.
